Countdown to The Good Food and Wine Show begins

27 to 30 October 2009 – Sandton Convention Centre

Launched together with the Sandton Convention Centre in 2000, RMB WineX has brought the country’s best wines directly to the palates of Gauteng wine lovers for the past decade.  Showcasing an array of well-loved as well as lesser-known wine producers, wine routes, olive and wine accessory producers, the not-to-be-missed 10th Anniversary Edition consolidates the show's status as South Africa's premier wine festival. WineX is sponsored by Rand Merchant Bank together with associate sponsors British Airways (operating as Comair Limited), The Weekender, Talk Radio 702 and RMB Private Bank.

This year’s exhibitor line-up includes award-winning producers such as Nederburg, Fleur du Cap, Tokara, Saronsberg, Vergelegen, and Quoin Rock. The arrival on the wine scene of much anticipated boutique newcomers such as Bartinney and Tamboerskloof Wines as well as the presence of specialist cellars like The Winery of Good Hope confirm the breadth and depth of WineX exhibitor list.  Regular olive exhibitors Romesco, Kloovenburg, Morgenster and The Olive Shed will again show and sell olives, olive oils and pastes.

Says WineX director, Michael Fridjhon: “When we launched the show in 2000 we never envisaged that it would become a landmark feature on the South African wine calendar. Much of its success is due to the synergy between the country's best wineries and South Africa's most important wine market.”

To assist show goers with the daunting task of engaging with around 200 exhibitors and 1100 wines, RMB WineX puts the show’s comprehensive festival guide and list of wines onto its website during the weeks leading up to show.  Visitors can plan in advance their ‘routes’ around the WineX hall and book multiple-night passes to optimize their WineX encounter.

Visitors to the show also have the opportunity to convert their best WineX tasting experiences into a home consumption opportunity via the Shop@Show facility.  Managed by Norman Goodfellows, Shop@Show ensures that most WineX wines are immediately available to collectors and consumers at competitive prices.  A unique feature of the show is the Talk Radio 702 Best Wines on Show ballot where wine lovers can vote for the best white and red wines at WineX.
