FIFTH ANNUAL WACKY WINE WEEKEND
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Robertson Wine Valley’s biggest annual wine festival. The ever-popular Wacky Wine Weekend is taking place from 6 – 8 June 2008. And this year, visitors can expect even more festivity and celebration… with over 40 participating wineries showcasing their wares, as well as a variety of other key attractions, including old favourites and novel experiences.
Apart from all the established activities such as: the half-marathon, mountain bike challenge, boat trips, tractor trips, sunset game drives, live music and ‘meet-the-winemaker’ tastings, there will also be a number of new and exciting events. Dashing into town for the event, The Ferrari Club will be parading their fleet of hottest ‘toys’. Or if visitors have more of a predilection towards balancing on eyebeams and tight-rope sleight-of-foot tricks, they will love the acrobatic performances of the Zip-Zap Circus (performers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, who have cultivated their talent through this outreach medium). Those nostalgic and yearning for a ‘blast from the past’ will most likely enjoy old-fashioned side-car motorcycle rides. A magnificent, kaleidoscopic display of fireworks will also light up the heavens.
Once again, a gastronomic extravaganza of gourmet treats will be on offer. With such a wide variety of delicious morsels, visitors will be spoilt for choice: traditional ‘boerekos, riverside picnics, Italian cuisine, potjiekos and sushi are just a few of the mouth-watering treats that will be available.
And while the adults are revelling in all the above, as always, there will be a wide range of children’s activities in Robertson to keep the little ones happy, from feeding farm animals to fishing, face-painting, pony rides and ‘kettie’ target shooting... to mention but a few.
The “Taste Responsibly” campaign will be fully operational again. The popular ‘Buddy Bus’ - enabling visitors to rent a taxi for the day for a minimum of 10 people – will be available. This must, however, be booked in advance. A shuttle service will also be on offer and tickets for the Shuttle Service will be on sale at the Tourism Office and at allocated bus stops.
