Monis releases exclusive new wooded vintage Muscadel

Monis, one of the oldest and most respected names in fortified wines in South Africa, has released its first vintage Muscadel since 1992, the wood matured Monis Vintage Muscadel 2000.

This superb muscadel was matured for five years in 500 litre old French oak barrels, making it a truly unique and exclusive muscadel as only a handful of South African muscadel producers age their wine in wood. The Monis Vintage Muscadel 2000 is a full sweet muscadel made of red muscadel grapes selected from the Breede River Valley.

It has a warm topaz colour with a reddish hue and has a very complex nose with strong Muscat, raisins, Christmas cake, cinnamon, marzipan and subtle citrus flavours.

"On the palate this well-balanced muscadel has a delicate woodiness with a soft, silky smooth opulence ending with a very long aftertaste that grows on you," said Dirkie Christowitz, Cellarmaster of Monis. "This marvellous wine promises to open up more flavours with every sip."

Christowitz recommends serving the Monis Vintage Muscadel 2000 ice cold on crushed ice throughout the year.

Its predecessor, the Monis Vintage Muscadel 1992, was crowned the best wooded Muscadel in the world at the first international Muscats of the World wine competition in France in 2001.
