Fleur du Cap has clinched two Gold medals for its select Unfiltered wines at this year’s International Wine Challenge (IWC) – the world’s largest wine competition based in London.
One of only two South African producers to win two gold medals in this prestigious wine competition, Fleur du Cap clinched eight medals in total – two Golds, one Silver, four Bronze and one Commended.
The highly acclaimed Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc took centre stage once again with a Gold medal for its 2006 vintage, whilst the Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Viognier Limited Release 2006, was the only South African Viognier to be awarded Gold.
Competing with almost 9 400 entrants from leading wine producers in 35 countries, the Fleur du Cap Gold medals where two of only 260 awarded in total. Of these, 12 were awarded to South African wines.
Fleur du Cap Chenin Blanc which has also enjoyed considerable local and international recognition over the years, won a Silver medal for its 2006 vintage. This prized wine scooped a Gold medal at the 2006 Michelangelo International Wine Awards and was selected for the esteemed British Airways Comair Club Class.
The entries for the 2007 IWC were judged by a remarkable line-up of 400 wine experts under stewardship of 5 Co-Chairmen – Tim Atkin MW, Charles Metcalfe, Sam Harrop MW, Derek Smedley MW and guest Co-Chairman, Michael Fridjhon. The results were made public during the annual London International Wine & Spirits Fair.
Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc 2006 is the second vintage made of grapes handpicked from terroir-specific vineyards. This enticing wine is complex with a rich mixture of classic gooseberry, asparagus, passion fruit and mango aromas on the nose, whilst the palate is dominated by herbaceous flavours.
Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Viognier Limited Release 2006 is a rich, full-bodied wine with ample peach, apricot and floral aromas that is firm fleshed and delightfully creamy on the palate.
