Champion Stellenzicht Syrah wins 4th international Gold

Stellenzicht Syrah 2001, the multi award winning Shiraz produced in the famous “Golden Triangle” on the slopes of the Helderberg, has just earned its 4th international gold medal and 6th overall, at the 2008 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in Bordeaux, France.

Last year, the 2001 vintage of this Stellenzicht flagship wine outclassed all other South African Shiraz producers with a top 10 ranking and gold medal at the inaugural international 2007 Syrah du Monde Awards. This wine also won a gold medal at the prestigious International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2005 and a Grand Gold at Mundus Vini in 2004. On home soil, this Syrah has also done well at South African wine competitions, with gold medals at Veritas and the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.

This jewel in Stellenzicht’s prestigious range of speciality wines was made from a single vineyard in the unique “Golden Triangle”, an area known for some of the country’s most celebrated wines. Made in the classic northern Rhone style by Cellarmaster Guy Webber, the Stellenzicht Syrah 2001 was matured predominantly in French oak. The 20 year old vineyard known affectionately as “Plum Pudding Hill”, produces excellent grapes vintage after vintage resulting in fine wines with a strong sense of place that can hold their own with the best in the world. This full-bodied yet succulent wine with firm, soft tannins and perfectly balanced acidity, abounds with ripe plums, mocha and dark chocolate on the nose with hints of cinnamon and cloves.

Stellenzicht, situated between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, is open for wine tasting and sales from 09h00 – 17h00 on weekdays and on weekends and public holidays from 10h00 – 16h00. For more information call (021) 880 1103 or visit www.stellenzicht.co.za.
