Singita Scores Twofold In Zagat Survey
Voted overall Top Small Hotel and Top Rooms in the 2007/2008 World’s Top Hotels, Resorts and Spas poll
Singita, the South African based operator of luxury game lodges in Southern and East Africa, excelled as double winner in the 2007/2008 World’s Top Hotels, Resorts and Spas Survey by Zagat Survey (USA), the world’s leading consumer travel poll guide.
Described as an "absolutely flawless safari compound", Singita scored a first place ranking as Top Small Hotel (with less than 100 rooms), also clinching the No.1 position for Top Rooms. Outclassing the crème de la cream in luxury accommodation, Singita was singled out as the only African property to be included in this year’s listing.
The results of this definitive annual survey are based on the experiences of more than 21 000 frequent world-travellers and agents and highlight the leading chains, hotels, resort and spas across the globe.
"The guide is designed to help travellers make informed decisions about the best places to stay around the world. Whether it’s business or pleasure, the guide is an essential resource for any savvy traveller," said Tim Zagat, CEO of Zagat Survey.
The Cape Town based Singita Group has garnered considerable international recognition since the opening of its first exclusive luxury game lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjoining the Kruger National Park.
"We are absolutely delighted that Singita came out tops, beating impressive contenders including the Four Seasons, Aman and Oberoi. All first class hotels in every respect. More importantly we are honoured that our guests have been so pleased with their experience at our lodges," said Mark Witney, Singita Group Director.
Today Singita’s illustrious Southern Africa portfolio comprises the Boulders and Ebony lodges in the game-rich Sabi Sand Reserve as well as the Lebombo and Sweni lodges in the adjacent renowned Kruger National Park. All Singita lodges feature the highest level of service, amenities and furnishings.
Whilst consistently maintaining the highest possible standards, pushing the benchmark for the ultimate luxury African bush and wildlife experience, Singita is also making strides in East Africa with the latest addition to the group, Singita Grumeti Reserves.
The Singita properties in Tanzania feature three spectacular lodges: Sasakwa Lodge, Sabora Tented Camp and Faru Faru Lodge – all situated on the famous migratory route in the Serengeti. This conservation and community based project won the 2006 Travel + Leisure Global Vision Award.
